  • I grew up on builder youtube and I’ve had to leave channels like Veritasium and Mark Rober in the past due to the clear corporate influence that ruined the content for me. What was really the line for me was when a bunch of big channels started pushing pro-military slop disguised as engineering content. No Mark Rober i don’t neef to hear you glaze the military. A few smaller channels have also done military content but i mostly excuse it because its usually years in the past and I’d bet most of them vehemently disagree with the actions of the US military. Like do I love that William Osman did an egg drop off a Navy ship? no. Do i think Big Willy would glaze the military? absolutely not. is he still part of my dream blunt rotation? yes.

  • im not a marxist-leninist but this is a pretty braindead take

    > be me
    > advocating for system that is egalitarian and focused on communal ownership of resources to reduce exploitation
    > every example of such system, even if incomplete, expoused ideals of radical equity and inclusiveness in multiple facets of life
    > the people who believe in the future of such systems point out that those ideals were not met and point out ways to improve on that
    > "but why gay"
    > no one wants me around

It’s definitely still worth doing. I landed my current position (started as an intern) because I had significant open source experience and the company was looking to open source one of their internal tools. Maybe that’s just the stars aligning but having a robust portfolio of open source projects and running my own homelab are the reason I am where I am in my career as young as I am.

  • Some people argue that if you are not cis you are trans; I believe this comes from the perspective that being trans is not just transitioning but that transness is the umbrella for being genderqueer. This is why some people say that all nonbinary folks are trans while others disagree; I personally think these labels are descriptive and no prescriptive so choose whatever you want. But imo being anything other than cis can be a lot like race; just because you aren’t white doesn’t mean you’re black, but just because you’re not black doesn’t mean you’re white. Plenty of people of color try to lean into their whiteness and put distance between them and blackness, but the fact of the matter is that a brown person will never be white and trying to avoid blackness can destroy the solidarity that allows us to overcome this system; just because you aren’t cis doesnt mean you’re trans, but at the end of the day the system doesn’t care if you’re trans, it cares that you’re not cis. If transness was the issue the intersex people would have nothing to worry, but they are facing just as much discrimination from anti-trans policies as well.

You may make the distinction between being agender and beinf trans, and that’s reasonable and should be respected. The state makes no such distinction.

  • turns out the thursday goat service brings in Dianne from networking who remembers she needs to reboot a apecific device weekly, but its not documented anywhere. When Dianne doesn’t do this everyone freaks out and grabs another goat to sacririce which brings her back because who is she to say no to some good goat, and the cycle is continued and reinforced
