I use my debit card at the dispensary, and I prefer bourbon.
Nice try, grandma!

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•'Star Trek': Holly Hunter Teases 'Starfleet Academy' Season 2 After CancellationEnglish
2·4 days agoI get where you’re coming from with the “give it chance” vibe, but the writing for STA was so shockingly bad right out of the gate, so directionless, weird, and scattershot, I don’t think giving it more time would be doing anyone any favors.
And now, knowing that they produced seasons 1 and 2 back to back, we’d have to endure an entire season 2 of this before we saw any improvement.

Linux@programming.dev•Linux Patches Enable Apple M4 NVMe SupportEnglish
8·4 days agoSheesh M4 Support already? Wow.
While the Apple M4 SoCs aren’t yet supported by the mainline Linux kernel and the Apple M3 series hardware isn’t yet ready for end-users, there are some early elements of the Apple M4 support beginning to come together by open-source developers working on the Apple Silicon support. Sent out to the Linux kernel mailing list were patches for enabling NVMe solid state drive support with the M4.
Oh, still…

Technology@beehaw.org•Top economist warns that the AI math doesn’t make sense: 'Profits are currently being funded by investors rather than earned from customers'English
2·7 days agoI know. It was a joke.
But, at least for now, ai doesn’t really do anything, either, at least not anything particularly meaningful. It’s a McGuffin for billionaires to slush money around and profit from others investing in bunk stock. They’re making trillions in a gigantic pump and dump scheme, and right before the bubble bursts, they’re gonna cash out and fuck off leaving everyone else to get screwed

9·8 days agoHmmm… I think it needs to be something with more ‘bite’. “Musking it up” sounds like a 90s sitcom dad-move. Like something Tim Allen might have tried on Home Improvement.
“Livin’ On the Eggs!”
“Just can’t help myself from breeeeding!”
Ok, fucking yikes— no, that was somehow even more 90s, and incredibly terrifying. Apologies to anyone who gets the reference. and to literally every member of Aerosmith.

Linux@programming.dev•Linux Wireless Maintainer Takes Firm Stance Against AI/LLM Generated Slop PatchesEnglish
86·8 days agoMmmmyeeaahhh, maybe, but I am a couple decades past trying to read the tea leaves with that guy. If that’s what he really meant, he could’ve come out and just said that – but he didn’t. He was intentionally ambiguous, mostly because I think he’s just tired of dealing with the issue (and an increasingly cunty crowd), and wanted to push the responsibility of making a decision off of himself and back onto the users. I will admit that he is far more composed than I would be in his position.
On one hand, I don’t blame him, but on another hand, I really wish he would’ve taken a stance (prefer preferably anti-AI).
He gave a professional response to a gigantic community because he has a professional responsibility to do so. Personally, I think he gave the only response he could. What does he personally think? Like I said, I’m a couple of decades past trying to read the tea leaves on that guy. But you could be right.
