Using a browser is definitely a no go for me. Lots of people are asking, why not just use vim instead of obsidian? Linking is important, I’ve been meaning to try neorg, I’ll get there eventually. To me writing the notes is secondary to finding, exploring, and reading the notes. I find vim is better writing things than exploring things, probably just a skill issue but I don’t really care.

Well I don’t think the vocabulary is particularly important here, since they likely didn’t use the words in the same way we do. Like some scripts like batard or English secretary hand were evolutions of the formal script that reduced pen strokes to be faster to write making them more cursive.

But I’m curious about the history of connected letter scripts like Italian round hand. But most of the books I’ve read about handwriting have been in the American tradition, and it helps they are easy to find on the Internet. Some cursory reading on the subject seems to point to it coming from Italy in the form of old Roman cursive. To my eyes old Roman cursive seems related but is too different for me to call a flowing connected letter script. This isn’t surprising though since it was used to write on wax tablets.

It seems like something we would recognize in the modern world as a connected letter cursive originated in the late 15th century Italy out of italic script. But I don’t speak Italian or Latin so I don’t know how to find any primary sources on this.

As a person who’s special interest is calligraphy, what do you mean by cursive? I had always thought that scripts were on a spectrum between gothic and cursive, with more strokes per letter or less strokes respectively. Though I mostly practice ornamental penmanship (fancy spencerian), so I don’t know much about the history of hands in Europe.

I’m not a security guy, what is the problem that this is supposed to be fixing? Like I guess you wouldn’t be able to use a virtuallised os to visit your banking website? Like I understand if you work for a bank you should only be able to access some things from specific computers, but normal people?

When I was drinking, most alcohol tasted good to me. Even now when I have my monthly drink, most of them still taste kinda good. I think some of us are just kinda broken

Probably been mentioned already, but ZFS and BTRFS have options for full disk compression. Though there is cpu overhead with higher compression settings.

I mean I live next to one that barely counts as a “city”. It has a state run organization that exists specifically for developing the area for recreation, tourism, and training athletes. They’ve been doing a lot of good for the community, and I think they’re the largest employer in our county. But they’ve been really bad about building affordable housing (except for the j1s).

Anarchism is cool, but I really just want people to care about the place they live in and the people that live around them. I think a lot of other problems solve themselves after that.

I think we would probably have to re-imagine our relationship with garbage to some extent. Take more personal responsibility for the garbage we create. Being a garbage collector would probably be a much more respected position too since they’re doing something that directly benefits the community.

Garbage collection doesn’t have to be a life sentence either. Maybe it’s just something you work for a couple months at a time. If people don’t care about the community littering would still be a problem. But is anarchism even possible if people don’t care about their community?
