  • Microsoft GamePass was serious competition and they ruined it, for now. They had managed to build a system where there was no reason for folks not to buy in, people got nearly unlimited games and then often paid for DLC and cash shop items for games they didn’t even own. It was converting the average gaming market to an a la cart style cash shop which as much as 2010 me would consider this offensive, today it is often better for gamers without money.

The only other thing that would seriously compete with Steam would be a marketplace that had tradeable games but I think the game makers don’t want this so no developer would sign up for it.

Itch.io exists and it does a fantastic niche gaming distribution job so I don’t see how a new competitor can do better than what is already out there.

I don’t feel like we make it better by also trying to fear women. I also don’t want to make it so folks are just giving up on vigilance because everyone is bad.

Some people have a very good sense of when people or situations are dangerous and other folks do not have that. I think what I’d ideally want is to help figure out how to identify that and maybe even improve it for folks in safe and healthy ways?

  • A person who has more muscle will burn more calories just existing than someone with less muscle. Muscle growth is impacted by hormones and other factors impacted by genetics.

It is a lot easier to diet properly when you burn 1500 calories a day resting than 800 calories a day resting. Taking the right supplements can obviously fix this but someone with 150lbs of muscle can just follow basic nutrition guidelines and it is “easy”.

  • The same way someone saying that you would look better without glasses, or would look better with short hair, or would look better if you worked out more is all belittling.

You are trivializing the choices or non choices a person made. You are implying that the way a person looks is in some way wrong or could be better, that they are less than.

What do any of those things have to do with the conversation. They didnt understand why men sharing an opinion about women’s makeup was a problem. I explained my view of it.

Life is unfair and people can be mean isn’t a justification its just whataboutism cope. Rather than actually letting people consider that maybe their behavior has hurt people you are helping them justify it because people maybe somewhere other people were mean to some other person probably.

Sharing your opinions of how others chose to dress or act is weird unless you are doing it to influence others. Trying to influence people by belittling them is rude.

You could be saying it about how someone dresses, or dances, or what bike they chose to ride.

It is unfortunate that men belittling women about their makeup is so pervasive in our culture that after at least three generations of people highlighting how hurtful it is, people still think their right to state their opinion of random people is more important than people’s right to go through their day without being accosted.
