It’s honestly tragic reading some of the demands activists made in the past and comparing it to the most being demanded now. People back in the day talked about wanting “bread and roses” but now the most people are willing to ask for is merely a living wage.

I think how it generally goes in China is that a suspended sentence on the death penalty means life imprisonment in the absence of any new crimes. So he might only serve jail time. But I don’t have a serious source on that so don’t commit crime in China based on my advice.
(besides that though, I always find it odd how people draw the line at what punishments are acceptable for criminals. Why is locking him in a box forever fine but killing him is excessive? Unless there’s a concern of false conviction and a possibility of getting the ruling overturned, life imprisonment doesn’t seem like it’s the more ethical option.)

4·1 month agoRegina mentioned ‼️ I was there at the protests! Was a lot of energy there, I think they basically ran out of petition papers for people to sign. Not a surprise though, the whole process for the data centre getting approved is blatantly and nakedly corrupt.
Daily reminder: fuck the Sask party, Scott Moe murdered someone and is a drunk driver.
(edit: we don’t know that he was drunk right when he killed Joanne Balog.)

3·1 month agoOutside of the normal Marxist reasons for capitalist pursuit of growth, there’s a resource demand argument for growth (which would exist even without capitalism).
Think of it like this: everyday, people are born or immigrate here. Everyone has needs that need to be satisfied, like food, housing, entertainment, medicine, art and culture, education, clothing, and water. Let’s imagine that growth didn’t occur. These needs would still be there, so that situation would mean that everyone would have to make do with a little less per-capita – or some people would have to go without. What other conclusion would there be if there’s no growth in production and supply but a growth in total demand?
Even in a socialist or communist system, growth would still need to be planned for because the population tends to grow and people have needs to tend for. Unless you are planning for a population to be maintained at replacement rate on a multi-generational scale, economic growth needs to happen to accommodate a growing population.
Edit: to be clear, I am not suggesting that capitalism does resource distribution well. I started out by saying “outside of the normal Marxist reasons for capitalist pursuit of growth” for a reason. I’m just saying growth needs to be planned for no matter the mode of production.
Even in the 2000s, many of the good servers on tf2 would ban for racism snd sexism. (Probably not homophobia tho). Gmod was worse for it, but there were still servers that didn’t allow it.
And it makes sense. Even if bigotry isn’t a problem to you, bigots tend to be really fucking annoying about it. You don’t often find bigots that are chill with it. When you cut the bigots, you cut like 90% of the shit disturbers that made the game less fun.

Can we all agree to not joke about people playing within their limits from now on?
