Guess where the data came from to train these models?

Okay, I’m gonna make myself very unpopular here, but I feel like they got what was coming for them. I think nobody should feel bad for them.
Popular figure heads of the kernel and the linux foundation itself embraces and uses generative AI. (For code & graphics).
They lost their right to complain about scrapers, when then started using the result of them in my opinion.
(It is also quite ironic that the author of this blogpost has an AI pfp on his fedi profile.)
This would not surprise me at all.
“Outsource your critical thinking when reading news articles to this random website and trust that it reports the biases correctly, accurately and without any bias themselves.”
Yeah, right.
In my current understanding instance admins have the power to delete posts in third party communities for the users on the instance they administer. This would not affect other instances, since they are other servers, where a third party instance admin has no power. At least that’s how I remember the global moderation tools being when I used to run my own instance.
So in my current understanding it would not matter, if this post is in a 3rd party community, or directly on this instance. If the admins were to disapprove of this post as much as implied, they would’ve removed this post from feddit.org directly. The “only” difference being that if this post was on feddit.org and they were to delete it, it would probably also be removed from all the other instances, but this point does not matter, since that is not the case.
My whole argument here is, that my instance administrators would’ve deleted this post on my end already and I wouldn’t see and interact with this post right now. This point requires that my understanding of the moderation tools are correct, which I currently can’t verify easily.
Feel free to correct me, if my understanding of Lemmys moderation tools are incorrect.
Here’s a link.
Nothing happened. Its still up, hasn’t been taken down, did not get downvoted to hell.
I honestly don’t know what they were expecting.
It’s still up. With only 4 downvotes. 21h after posting. What’s your point?
Ah wait. You can’t read this anyway, since your admin defederated the instance. Shucks.

Yes, its a bit petty, but I can’t feel like this is not a “oh, no, consequences of my actions” moment.
Use a machine, which was trained on the stolen knowledge and art of the whole of humanity? Yes, please.
Then feel the pain when the corpos scrape your data? No. None of that.
Nobody would scrape websites that hard, if people would not use generative AI.
