When your ass is truly on the line, your brain will take over quite nicely. I don’t mean mere fear or apprehension, I mean, “I will die if I don’t act as needed.” Many go their whole lives without that experience. This is not an “illness” thing.

HistoryArtifacts@piefed.social•Roman 'hologram' ring with an illusion of 3d depth, gold and quartz, Roman Empire, 1st century ADEnglish
1·7 months agoIt’s only been in the past couple of years that I’ve begun to appreciate how advanced the Romans were, for how long, for how far the fall was.
One tiny example was the perfume ampoules on here the other day (probably posted by PugJesus). They were so rich they could have people blowing hot glass into tiny birds, filling them with perfume, reheating and sealing, all for a one-time use item.
It’s not that the rich could afford such things, it’s that Roman society was advanced enough to support such arts. Does that make sense? I doubt anyone was doing such work in Great Depression America, not enough of that work enough that samples would survive 2,000 years. (That was a mess, hope someone gets me.)

1·7 months agoRight with ya. When I hear anything incredible, in the old sense of the word, I immediately ask, “HOW does that work? What plausible mechanism is at play?”
True enough, sometimes we figure shit out backwards, but I’m still asking for a plausible mechanism.

Hits a little different now doesn’t it?
Funny thing; I’ve slept and lived with both skinny and fat women. Either way, they’re cranking the heat. The fat ones are cool on the outside, but they turn into a nuclear reactor in their sleep. Same with skinny girls, radioisotope generators once they lay still for a minute.
And their hands and feet are still cold!

0·10 months agoJesus, I know this sort of comment is stale, but I ate the headline for a second.
There was a cop in Tulsa who straight executed a black man upon pulling him over, wounded the passenger.
“Any guns or drugs in the car?”
“Yes ma’am. I have a pistol and my conceal-carry license right here.”
She jumped back and emptied her service weapon into the passenger compartment. I won’t look for the video let alone post it, but it’s out there. She got off Scot free.
Guess what she’s doing now? Traveling around as a consultant, consulting cops on the PTSD she suffered from that interaction.
EDIT: I may be getting my “Tulsa cops shoot black man” stories mixed up. Take my post with a fat grain of salt. In any case, the shooting changed the police department in a very positive way. Didn’t believe it when my best friend back home told me the pigs were very different after that. My experiences going back confirm that take.
Me and you both! I so love that it takes her about zero effort to be hairless. Yet the top of her head is thick as hell and solid black at 54!
Wife is the first Asian I had ever been with. She’s so hairless I thought she oiled her legs on our first date.

Because the 2A is a Constitutional right and alcohol is not. Neither is driving. Doesn’t matter if anyone likes it, it’s a fact. Some states do restrict pistols to 21, which is sane as those are the weapons doing nearly all the killing.
