Linux@programming.dev•France has ditched Windows 11 for Linux on 2.5 million government PCsEnglish
5·7 days agoFrance for whatever reason tends not to export much tech, so I think many people don’t realize how tech-savvy they have historically always been.

in many places
You do realize you’re still doing the exact thing I just described yeah?
stocking the shelves of your grocery store
See that’s what’s so ragebaity about the post. There’s no mention of what the job was, which means people can just make up whatever bit of background allows them to feel the most superior.

Flippanarchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Trading stocks does not make you a capitalistEnglish
6·13 days agoAlso if you’re not participating in shareholders meetings, proposing resolutions and voting on them, then you’re not even really owning the stock in any meaningful way. You’re just holding a virtual piece of paper hoping the number goes up.
Don’t know if they’re still doing it but a small IBM shareholder used to annually table a motion that all payments to political parties and individuals be explained, and the board kept recommending a “No” vote.
So here’s the thing. In his prime in the early 2000s there legitimately was a liberal PC orthodoxy in comedy. This meant if you made a joke about a marginalised group it was implicitly understood that the humour was either in the outrageousness of it, or that bigotry itself was the true target of the joke, and that we weren’t supposed to take it at face value.
But then actual fascists started gaining power by campaigning against those same marginalised groups, and that type of joke stopped being possible even when played back verbatim. Gervais either hasn’t realized that, or is happy to play to the tastes of real bigots.
I used to be philosophically anti-piracy in principle, and would often argue online against people who posted disingenuous or self-serving justifications for their actions. But these days the amount of piss-taking by the publishers has destroyed my resolve.
Yarrr.

General Memes & Private Chuckle@lemmy.dbzer0.com•The Best Kind of Plot 👍English
19·23 days agoOnce you spot this it becomes impossible not to see it.
Ever notice how most environmentalists in comic book movies and TV are evil, misguided, or at best ineffectual?
Or how a corrupt official can leverage whole armies to chase down the protagonist, but the conclusion is that the system itself is great and should be protected and it was just that one bad egg?
I think it’s a deliberately bad name chosen as a Malicious Compliance type fuck-you to people who wanted it to sound “professional”.
There’s already Latex
wait what? Latex is used in tons of non-sexytime things, surely nobody’s raising an eyebrow at that?

4·29 days agoYeah I mean this isn’t a Face Turn on his part, he’s a bigoted fascist who’s pissed off that Trump’s bigoted fascism has its list of targets in a slightly different order to his
Yeah, I think this is a lot more plausible than the wall heating theory that someone further up got way more upvotes for.
