How would this app be an improvement or any better? Sometimes I feel people clone app repos, tweak 1 or 2 things and call it a whole new app.

Ohhh gotcha. I have Voyager open links externally to my browser which uses Waterfox with Privacy Badger (by EFF) and Port Authority (recommended by ff staff iirc) extensions. Should accomplish the same thing. Man, too tired to think and process when I saw voyager and trackers smh. Thank you!

They’re usually a lot more trustworthy, better community contributions, and better ratios to help others, hence the seeding requirement. It’s a sort of accountability to sharing. There are also those who abuse the rules…
A few smaller sites are a bit goofy, I’ll agree, but at least 2 bigger ones are non issues.

Outlook gives you aliases, but obviously we’re not trying to use big bro tech.
Proton paid does this as does free with limited aliases.
Then there’s SimpleLogin (also through Proton) that gives you a bunch of domains to use with several other domains. The only service that rejected the alias domain was Github, but it’s trash and owned by MS so nbd.

Ohhh boy, I didn’t realize voyager had trackers?? Where do you find tracker control? EDIT: found it, it’s one word.
From F-Droid:
"What does Voyager offer?
- No trackers or advertisements, ever - Multi-account support - Gesture-driven UI - Compact and large post feed mode - Mark posts as read on scroll - Hide read posts, or hide individually - A beautiful private messages UI - Settings to customize Voyager to your desire - Quick community switcher - Mod tools - Open source: code is available on Github"

Be sure you use a good front end or UI like NAPS2

Do people not know about Quad9? DoH & Quic

I sincerely hope US reserves are in fact depleted as we’re (US) the ones who caused the havoc in the first place for so many other countries. Then everyone will hopefully truly start to see Trump a the bad guy instead of somehow always coming to his defense.
My guess is, by the time reserves are days away from empty, a resolution will "magically " be reached just in time to make him look like the hero. It’s putting billions in the pockets of big oil companies (aka his acquaintances) who bailed him out of going to jail.
“A broad cross-section of major corporations and industry players publicly backed Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign and the Trump Vance inaugural committee in 2024–2025, with reported donors spanning Big Tech, crypto firms, oil and gas, finance and automotive companies [1] [2] [3].”

I use Waterfox which forgets all data on exit, with Privacy Badger and Port Authority extensions with no exclusions.
So far, no sites really “break”, if anything, they’re a little quicker… reading mode is nice to get passed paywall popups on most sites that want a subscribe.
If at work, I include the company-provided password manager for all my sites I need. Still works well (unless my post gets attention and companies try to break it)

OK but in the non open source instance, that’s fine. I’m more so calling on a lot of these non profits, foundations, or other orgs preaching OSS and open internet, yet use GH. They have a lot of influence and are well known, which could hello addition to other platforms.

Touché. I was just meaning response

Oh wow I did not realize there a limit. Is that per project? Maybe that was a limit initially? I’ve cloned a couple repos but I guess I’ve not checked size.

Sweet I’m checking this out! I like the idea of truly owning the data like a lot of other decentralized or federated projects are doing.

Hell yeah! Great perspective.

Very nice! This makes total sense. Let me rebuttal with Enshittification
“Here is how platforms die: first, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die.”
Microsoft is good at fucking up platforms they acquire! Lately they’ve just been more patient with it.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. As a non Dev, I more or less assumed it was more pet projects and foss apps than business repos or projects.
I also felt like if projects are linked on a company or business website to bitbucket or codeberg, etc, it wouldn’t matter because it’s getting exposure that way. And also assuming a git repo basically functions the same way regardless of where it’s hosted with some minor differences in tools.

I think Microsoft learned their lesson finally on fucking up acquisitions (talking Mixer especially lol) where they buy out a platform but then curse it with their touch and it fails. Now, with LinkedIn and Github, they sort of leave it be with subtle and incremental changes because then petiole continue to adopt it. Now its like FB or Snapchat where people are there bc they think everyone else is there (assuming). Idk, it sucks.

I’ve just been freeing up my phone and life from all major data siphons. Social media has been gone for years, but then news about LinkedIn getting way worse with data (which it’s already sucked) and sharing now with Amazon, is just BS so I’ve closed it.
One REALLY annoying thing I’ve personally noticed and can’t confirm but feel it; all the companies with jobs postings basically collect all these applicants data without ever hiring. It’s another dataset that can be monetized, so now companies can make money off everyone without much effort. Through some efforts I’ve read online as all as gone through myself, we all know there job market sucks-especially tech, but I guess I never considered why there are so so many posted jobs still until now.
Fuck them all!!
Same. Paid Proton and Voyager, and no bueno 😭
