I think the second pic is from the new series, which is MUCH closer to the original manga. This includes a lot of the silliness and humour that was there. Most of the adaptations were very dark and serious, but the manga had lots of typical anime quirks and tropes.

I, too, once indulged these scenarios to get the human contact I craved.
