A UN report has concluded that recent US airstrikes on vessels allegedly trafficking drugs breached international law and could constitute crimes against humanity.

The report by Special Rapporteur Ben Saul said since September last year there had been at least 68 US strikes in the Caribbean and Pacific, outside US territorial waters, which killed more than 220 people.

Saul said that even if targets could be identified as members of designated terrorist groups, they had not staged an armed attack on the US which would trigger a right to self-defence under international law.

The report comes two days after the US military said it killed four people in a strike on a vessel in the Caribbean.

shrug Idk, maybe. We’ll take a vote to form a committee to discuss starting an investigation. Just hope nobody on the UN Security Council vetos it.

I am sure the people on the committee will be sanctioned by the US if they present any substantial evidence.

Assuming they aren’t placed there by the US, or one of its close allies, to write a report that absolves them.

Although, I’ll concede, one of the turns of the Trump Era has been a State Department that’s no longer invested in covering its own ass at the UN. The Reagan/Clinton Era of sending some dweeb to the UN to say “No You!” at international counterparts is behind us. The Era of John Bolton types saying “Aktuly, it’s incredibly based to bomb civilians and we should be going even harder” is in full swing.
