Grams per ounce as a measurement is hurting my brain, but yes, it’s a disturbing amount.

Why the fuck would you use grams per litre. We use grams per 100 grams of products. Coke is like 33% sugar, that’s easy to calculate if you have g per 100g.
Why not? Coke’s density is nearly equal to water, so once you’ve got everything in SI units, calculations become trivial. One litre of water is 1 kg/l, 100 g is 100 ml, which makes it 11.4 g of sugar in 100 g of product.
(edit) The “original” can of coke (sold in the EU) in my hand doesn’t use grams. It lists the nutritional content in reference to both 100 millilitres and the can’s nominal volume of 330 ml. It says it contains 11.2 grams of sugar in 100 ml.
Now calculating that in Troy pounds per long hundredweight would be actual insanity.
I know my local units, thanks. And we already use g per 100g, so even though it is basically the same as 0.1L people understand 100g proportions better.
I’m not proposing a new unit of description here, I’m saying that the proposed one is absurd given that we have an established and more useful unit virtually everywhere.

I could see this reaction from someone using freedom units, but it’s just over the top for a sane measurement system.
You misunderstand my reaction. g per 100g is already a established unit that is used everywhere that is a rounding error equivalent to 0.1g/L as you mentioned. So it’s nonsensical to introduce another more confusing measuring unit.
I also interpreted it as some American playing around with metric units while ignoring already established conventions so I went a little bit extra for emphasis, although it might have come out as rude, sorry.
Obviously Oz per Oz would be superior, simply for how dumb it is
