“Well, here’s where I say goodnight.”
The April 6, 1940, cartoon from the New Yorker shows a shocked and possibly disappointed dandy who has walked his date, Addams’s third Morticia incarnation, home-which happens to be a manhole with a ladder, complete with a lantern, leading down into it. His date flatly states, “Well, here’s where I say good night.” It appears that Addams was trying out this dark, slim beauty in a few different locations and circumstances.
