As an adult, I’ve had eye doctors use one to get an initial guess to speed up the manual testing process. It’s not quite as accurate, but it’s close enough to get a decent prescription for an infant.
Yeah they had one that was an attachment to a smartphone at my kid’s pediatrician. The assistant just snaps a picture of her eye and it can measure the refractive index from its special camera and it gave a reading right in the app almost instantly
