    Before No-Fault Divorce, there had to be a proveable “fault” like cheating or deatitution-causing gambling, and that cause had to be verified by a judge. There would be penalties on the party at fault I think.

    If two people were just miserable together, or if one of them was, but a judge didn’t agree that one of them had violated the expectations of marriage sufficiently, then you were trapped.
