    I can’t imagine wanting the law to force someone to stay married to me when they don’t want to be.

    Cooling off separation periods can be fine, but as far as I’m concerned the hassle of divorce is enough of a motivation to ensure you really want it. Even the least dramatic reason I’ve seen for a divorce is still a situation I support easy access to divorce in (a friend’s husband on a whim decided he wanted to move to India to teach and couldn’t be dissuaded, she said fuck no, their marriage had originally been for health insurance).

    But then we get to the reality that many no fault divorces are “I can’t (safely/comfortably/practically) prove fault” divorces.
