So what’s the propaganda here? Is there actually not a Uyghur “Situation” according to you? Or is the propaganda that the US and the west also do things like this? Because two wrongs don’t make a right.

Cause right now I’m in the camp of they all do some truly fucked up shit.

Edit: gotta love the downvotes with no fucking explanation.

Western propaganda has been claiming the “situation” constitutes a genocide, with no real evidence to back it up.

One of the US’s strategies to destabilize other countries is to back separatists and terrorists. It combines that with information warfare and usually economic warfare in hopes that the instability will open the door for a coup, where a compradore would be put in charge and then facilitate the extraction of resources from the country. This pattern has been replicated dozens of times in the last few decades.

China has been hit by multiple terrorist attacks as a result of this tactic, so it instituted deradicalization practices and jobs training for at-risk populations.

The Western propaganda industry used images from South America and claimed they were forced labor in China (with Spanish signs visible in the background). They used early image generation to fill out a registry of “missing” people, except a lot of the images still had artifacts from generation (if you remember thispersondoesnotexist, they were almost identical to that) until they got deleted. They relied almost exclusively, for a time, on citations from Adrien Zens, a man who cannot speak or read Mandarin and claims he is chosen by God to bring about the downfall of China.

China invited the UN to investigate. Dozens of countries investigated and found no evidence of genocide.

We’ve seen the kind of evidence that modern genocide produces due to Israel’s actual genocide of Palestinians.

So some westerners have walked back their invention from “genocide” to “situation”, while others continue to parrot the original disproven claims.

So it’s not about trying to compare moral judgements, it’s a skepticism of any claims coming from a proven, proudly genocidal empire about its targets.

There isn’t systemic torture or sexual assault. The best and most comprehensive resource I have seen so far is Qiao Collective’s Xinjiang: A Resource and Report Compilation. Qiao Collective is a group of Chinese diaspora living in the west, and they compiled an extremely comprehensive write-up of the entire background of the events, the timeline of reports, and real and fake claims. The majority of their sourcing is western, and they cite official Chinese government writing and white papers when relevant. Uyghur culture is preserved.

I also recommend reading the UN report as well as (especially) China’s response to it, which eclipses it in size and detail. These are the most relevant accusations and responses without delving into straight up fantasy like Adrian Zenz, Christian nationalist and professional propagandist for the Victims of Communism Foundation, does. Zenz’ work has been thoroughly discredited, yet is supported by western media for its utility in fearmongering. An example is lying about 8.7% of new IUDs as 80%, to back up claims of “forced sterilization,” from this chart:

              From the U.N. report:

Some also spoke of various forms of sexual violence, including some instances of rape, affecting mainly women. These accounts included having been forced by guards to perform oral sex in the context of an interrogation and various forms of sexual humiliation, including forced nudity. The accounts similarly described the way in which rapes took place outside the dormitories, in separate rooms without cameras. In addition, several women recounted being subject to invasive gynaecological examinations, including one woman who described this taking place in a group setting which “made old women ashamed and young girls cry”,168 because they did not understand what was happening. The Government has firmly denied these claims, often through personal or gendered attacks against the women who have publicly reported these allegations.

And sure, an obvious employee of the Chinese government is disputing these claims and providing their own biased sources of information. And I guess that’s what Lemmy is. I think I’m out. I guess thanks for helping me to see the light here.

There was a terrorist situation, not an ‘Uyghur’ situation.
Western funded islamic terrorist funded by the west doing multiple terrorist attacks.
And that has been dealth with.
And yes China has jails too, OMG!
They must obviously be al horrible Guantanamos, you know, how the west deals with them.
Definitely believe that propaganda, especially from the deranged religious fanatic Zenz who invents all these things, and later gets parroted without scrutiny by the western mouthpieces.

“Brother” you just literally made 20 pro-Russia and Pro-China posts in less than half an hour in a mix of different communities, and now that someone answered to you, you instantly popped another one. Tell your boss to be more patient with the schedule he’s giving you, and pace the posts better, so it’s less obvious.
