Every time I see such memes, I remind myself that lemmy.ml is blocked in:

    • China (including Hong Kong)

    • Iran

    • North Korea

    It is currently unblocked in:

    • The United States

    • Israel (and Palestine)

    • Ukraine

    • EU

    • Pretty much the rest of the world

    • Russia

Though I worry about Russia, as they’ve already blocked Bluesky and at least one part of the fediverse: https://lemmy.world/post/14156170

(And FYI I checked these regions myself, with a VPN, and then when another external tool, just now).

Like what? RT is not blocked for me; I read an article from there once in awhile. Neither is the Russian government website or anything else I can think to test.

Well it is for me in Europe, same as plenty of other channels.
I guess Big Brother decided for us that we can only get one narrative.

Because lemmy.ml federates with the broader Lemmyverse. So if instances like .world is blocked, that same content is visible on .ml so it’s blocked too.

Defederate from us and we might have a chance.

lemmy.ml was not blocked because of lemmy.world. Or other federated instances, as far as I can tell through testing a few.

.ml was blocked because the .ml domain was blocked due to it being a free domain mostly used for spam (although I’m sure some groups/sites have petitioned and had their non spam sites unblocked). Also things being blocked by the firewall doesn’t really mean much on a personal level when we all have a VPN. You clearly don’t understand the purpose of the firewall.

Liberals love this little factoid because it makes China seem “authoritarian” and therefore “bad” when in reality you can just use a VPN and do whatever you want. it’s (one of the ways) kinda how I get free stuff in the USA and I hate computers you just gotta do a tiny tiny bit of research but I’ve seen in China it’s like an open secret you could prob just get some stranger to tell you how

Yep, or they think it’s ironic that a pro-China instance is blocked in China. The problem is the Mali domain, not an ideological difference.
