these authorities are intended to be used only in exceptional circumstances and are not exercised lightly

Once again they promise never to use the crazy new powers they’ve just granted themselves for no obvious reason. What is even going on? Did the Liberal Party of Canada somehow get taken over by the same people that wrote Project 2026? Are they thinking fascism is inevitable so we might as well prepare for it? Assuming we have another federal election some day I get the feeling it’s going to go very badly for them, but the damage they’re doing will not be easy to repair.

It’s definitely the style of this government’s legislation. Bill C-22 is full of the same kind of thing: granting a sweeping power then advising that it shouldn’t be abused, though that abuse will be legal. We’re supposed to not notice, or to just trust them because they said they’d be nice.

Surveillance Bill C-22 for “assisting law enforcement” meanwhile the RCMP acts like a bunch of crooks assaulting indigenous individuals and harassing journalists and the liberals are over here telling us they need to be more powerful to “protect Canadians”

Yeah, trust Mark Carney, a guy who regularly misrepresents himself.

Even if I did have full confidence and trust in the Carney government to never abuse these sweeping powers, I still don’t want it because I wouldn’t trust a MAGA-acolyte style future government from one of Poilievre’s disciples not to abuse these exceptional powers.

Will you all please can it with that ‘wealthiest 1%’. 1% of seven billion people is 70 MILLION people. Almost twice the Canadian population. That is a LOT of people. Somehow, you imply that it is only a handful.
