To escape reddit and to help people if I can.
apicalypse, rip apollo
Reddit ban for a R1 violation.
Apparently if you say punching a nazi is a form of self-defense they’ll say you’re inciting violence.
fuck that, we need guns to enforce our rights, even communists know that. I mean whatever.
I finally got banned from Reddit and by now they have rather effective methods to detect ban evasion.
Because I missed the niche that reddit filled and I wasn’t willing to return to reddit or any other corporate, centralised social media/community platform.
spez is a piece of shit
Reddit killed third party apps
Reddit’s bot detection bot banned me for being a bot. The irony was too much.
I’d already heard of Mastodon and based on poking around there, I learned about Lemmy, so I explored it as a Reddit alternative. Initially, my early exposure to lemmy was mostly a curiosity thing.
Also during that time, my resentment and distaste for Reddit’s policies and general culture was building up. The place had changed so much over the years, just slowly enough that it took awhile to notice that it was no longer the same place it was when I first arrived.
I ended up coming to Lemmy in the months ahead of the Reddit API fiasco, but would still peek over there from time to time. Then post API fiasco, I just stopped even peeking.
In those days, Lemmy was a largely KIND place, so that really helped the transition. The culture here was different from Reddit, and seemed much more positive and supportive at that time, so that made it easier to look past the flaws. It was a regular occurrence to see folks call out users who were being abusive or overly abrasive in their replies, and folks would often talk out or joke about their differences. It was a nice, refreshing change of pace most of the time.
That’s almost all gone now or perhaps hidden on some private or unbeknownst to me server somewhere in the Fediverse. But for me, for now, I’m still here. I just had to adapt. Basically I mostly stopped reading replies to my comments and just block people I see being abusive to others, but this also means Lemmy is now a sad, dead echo of its not too distant past and more of an opportunity to fart into the winds of oblivion.
My instance and Beehaw still have that earlier friendliness (IMO, at least).
The threadiverse has gotten a bit more hostile since then, but on the whole I still find it pretty friendly, with many pleasant convos and sharing of useful info, but perhaps that’s just the places I visit here.
Because I got perma banned from Reddit after making a comment that all these ICE losers will never get paid or will get their sign on bonus. And that after 3 years they will be back sucking immigrant cock behind the Wendy’s. Apparently that is violation of rule 1 inciting violence. Which is total BS. Other people post much, much worse and actually death threats. Reddit definitely also bend the knee to the US authoritarian regime and any view other than nazisme is banned.
Anyway lemmy feels a much more positive place here except the formula 1 lemmy. That sub is so incredibly toxic.
Same, broke R1 and the last breaking of it was rather vague link. I just upvoted a comment that made fun of R1 under a post showing child abuse. Turns out that goes under it as well.
Because I got perma banned from Reddit after making a comment that all these ICE losers will never get paid
Did you get banned from a subreddit or from the entire Reddit?
Entire Reddit because it’s run by right-wing cry bitches. I almost wanted to say Fuck u/Spez.
nooo way!!! I hate that! I wish there were LAWS protecting people from being banned from websites, this is ridiculous the amount of power these corporations have to limit free speech. We’re not in 1820 anymore, free speech isn’t just talking with our physical voices — our digital voices are almost as important
I got perma banned from reddit.
I am not sure why. It could have been because I got 200+ downvotes for posting that Guy Ritchie’s Ministry of Ungentlemenly Warfare looked like a steaming pile of dog shit or because I posted that Pete Hegsbeth needs to die.
Anyway I deserved the Perma Ban.
The only thing I miss about reddit are the sports subs. Those were a lot more active than the ones on lemmy/fedverse.
sports subs
idk iam not that interested in sports, hate sports betting btw. This shows how there are many different niche interests that can not be served by lemmy
There is no reason the sports instances cant be busy on lemmy.
Reddit killed third party apps and I refused to use their shit app. It all just stinks of enshitification. So I spun up my own instance of Lemmy and haven’t looked back.
You seem like a high initiative individual. Congrats. I lack technical sophistication to even buy a domain name lol. How much do you pay for lazysoci.al per year (the domain name)?
What is your Lemmy instance?
reddit isn’t fun
I HATE REDDIT CENSORSHIP, seriously, it’s a weird politically biased censorship, you need to constantly adjust what you have to say/not say at all depending on the sub-reddit, leads to idiotic echo-chambers and self-righteous people who are just in a bubble, idk
wanted reddit from 10+ years ago when it was a smaller more chill site more interesting in being nerdy and curious than being political grandstanding. used to be such a fun place to kill time and learn cool shit and read interesting stories. it was glorious until 2016 and started going downhill rapidly, IME. I was first banned from reddit in 2020 for ‘inciting violence’ by talking about my cat hunting rabbits. thought it was insane, and a few months later I was randomly unbanned. OK. Stopped using it in '22 entirely as I constantly being reported for random comments as ‘racism, violence, hate speech’ when I was often pointing out those behavior and attitudes.
fediverse cool at first but now it’s rapidly growing into another reddit with a ton of people here who are just to be crappy and spam their weird agendas and go around endlessly self promoting themselves and hating on anyone who isn’t like them. it’s increasingly just a site for people to dump their insanity and delusions and seek validation for doing so. I have blocked so many people in the past few months it’s insane, my block list is 100s now, and in '25 it was maybe a dozen.
That said there are still some pretty good thoughtful threads on here about various issues, usually for the first few hours they are up, but once they get some traction the crazies come out to harass anyone remotely thoughtful and call them names. I’ve seen some wonderful empathetic and compassionate discussions get completely derailed by shitheads, who also mod-report these thoughtful and interesting things as ‘hate speech’ because it doesn’t align with their simplified black or white view of the issue, and their missions is simple to shut down any discussion that isn’t a catchphrase or other bumper sticker takes by calling it hate speech, just like my comment about my cat killing rabbits was ‘animal abuse’.
dumb people ruin everything because they basically throw a tantrum when they can’t fit the square object into the round hole and declare that the square space must therefore be a hateful bigot, because all the world must be round holes and only things that fit through them should be allowed to exist.
