A lot of animal/wildlife rescuers will use the swan straightjackets to keep both themselves and the swans (but mostly themselves) safe during rescue efforts. I remember the Wildlife Aid channel on YouTube had some videos with swan rescues where they explained that adolescent male swans leaving to find their own territories often ended up landing in suburban areas by accident (saw someone’s pool, or a reflective surface that looked like water) and had to be captured and relocated because they got too confused and disoriented to leave, etc. Since swans have breeding seasons, you can end up with a busy season where a bunch of swans need rescued in the space of a month or so. I expect something like that probably is the backstory here.

As somewhat of a polyglot, it just occurred to me that swedish is a language I’ve never once considered as a language I know absolutely nothing about nor have ever considered studying.
Ehh its not that interesting grammar wise. Just check the phonology, you will be slightly horrified but other than that its a very generic isolating northern germanic language. Huge amounts of vocab from proto-germanic(duh), english and french. The grammar is basically a remix of english. I still think its good to learn if you live in sweden which is kinda hard nowadays actually cause even swedish youth thinks theyre better off with english which is kinda sad.
I’m Norwegian, so basically the same both language and cultural wise. I know several foreigners that has had a hard time learning our language since we will jump over to fluent English after the smallest sign of struggle. When I was a kid I loved speaking to foreigners just so I could practice my English. Never occurred to me that maybe they needed to practice Norwegian more.
What’s the deal with swans? I’ve heard of angry geese, I’ve even known a few people who received injuries from one, but not swans.
Survivor bias. Those attacked by swans don’t live to tell the tale.
My understanding is that swans are basically just geese with good PR.
