Dependency theory has significantly fallen out of favor since the long 60s as a result of the neoliberal “reforms” of that era. This is not to say it is a worthless theory, it just didn’t directly explain the transfer of the means of production to the periphery. In recent years though, it has begun to see a resurgence with some adjustments. If you want a more up to date dependency theory I recommend Unequal Exchange by Torkil Lauesen. I have some minor disagreements with certain points in his work but most of it is very good.
