Doesn’t help that these towns are located with regard to georgian and victorian industries, and people are unwilling to move to where the industries now are.
They can’t afford to move to those places. My 3 bed house in a rural market town that is worth £150k would be worth three times what it is elsewhere where there’s more industry and jobs.
When your family are all there it makes a tough decision. Plus house prices and poverty put you at a disadvantage moving to somewhere more prosperous.
