The legislature comes as eight Canadian provincial governments levied restrictions on U.S. alcohol imports following U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs last year.
It’s genuinely unclear what you think you’re referencing, and I’m concerned by the number of upvotes this has.
What exactly is the comparison between a federal action threatening exportation of alcohol to Canada in retaliation of provincial Canadian restrictions on the importation of US alcohol, and revisionist historical narratives that white wash slavery and racism in the Confederate States? It is seriously confused comparison to make, and the additional “how’d that work out,” implies that the Civil War was actually about states’ rights (it was not) and we have historical consequences to point to and prove that it was wrong.
Then there’s the fact that this is about a federal US move in response to provincial policies that this article quotes the Prime Minister of Canada describing as an “irritant.” Are you saying that provinces shouldn’t have the right to regulate the importation of US alcohol in the same way that US states shouldn’t have had the right to maintain slavery (which you do seem to believe was the case)? Or are you saying that the federal government of either of these countries shouldn’t have the right to “impose laws on other states,” which in your understanding includes international trade policy. Seriously, what the fuck is this supposed to mean?
Even besides all of that, how fucking tasteless is it to talk about booze trade as though it is comparable to fucking chattel slavery? Like, seriously? Do none of you understand how fucking petulant it is to behave as though those are similar issues?
Back to the ol’ “states rights” again, huh? Rights to what? Impose laws on others states? How’d that work out again…?
