If it’s legal where someone lives you can build an AR-15 using an 80% lower or a Glock knock-off using mix&pour Resin kits; either of those can be done by most people in an apartment. If you have more space and talent there’s a video out there showing how to build an AK from a common shovel.
You can build a basic shotgun in the plumbing aisle at Home Depot and there are functional practical designs for DIY sub-machine guns out there.
The American tradition of building ones own firearms is 250 years old and (mostly) alive and well.
I mean, they sell kits to build your own gun. I haven’t done it, but in concept it feels kind of like Lego or a kit car to me.
I once made a basic shotgun with a few sections of high pressure piping ,a cheap welder, and a 2x4.
Also once made a 9mm semi-auto pistol, complete with riflrd barrel and lock mag compatibility. 3d printer, more pipes, and some electroplating equipment.
It’s not particularly difficult to make a shitty slam fire hardware store shotgun that only has to work a couple times.
I’m a big fan of minorities arming themselves and training. It’s pathetic how little you need to rain to get more experience than cops. Don’t be worse with guns than a cop.

Also, a ghost gun is just unserialized… I’d wager most ghost guns are not homemade firearms, but are just guns purchased through a strawman sale (felony) with their serial numbers sanded off.
Also also I don’t think it’s too common to make homemade firearms with wood (unless you’re making vintage replicas).
The polymer frame of a Glock is the serialized part, so most homemade firearms today are made with a 3D printed frame (or lower receiver for ARs) and off the shelf unregulated parts kits from the internet.
For ARs, the entire upper receiver assembly (upper, barrel, bolt carrier, etc… So all the parts that experience stress) can be purchased pre-assembled for less than $300 with 0 paper work or legal obligation.

If this Rule is adopted and you are using an ID that doesn’t show your Birth Sex please remember that you can legally purchase firearms privately without needing a Form 4473 assuming the state you live in didn’t pass some dumb fucking law that requires private transfers to be done through an FFL.
If you can’t legally buy privately because your State won’t let you then it is fairly straightforward to DIY quality firearms; everything from a knock off Glock to an AR-15. Seriously, it’s not overly complicated and can often be done in an apartment with basic tools.
If the State you live in has also banned home made / “Ghost Guns” then your options are to try and get your state to change its laws, move to another State, or to do something illegal.

This kind of shit is what happens when we keeping handing the Executive Branch ever more regulatory authority. The President shouldn’t have the ability to issue Executive Orders like this nor should the BATFE have the ability to change its own rules like this. 2A Advocates have been mad about both of these for a long time and both Political Parties have leveraged these capabilities to further their agendas. What’s worse is that our Congress is filled with spineless opportunists who refuse to reign-in these abuses.
This Trump led fuckery should not be happening however the Biden led fuckery around Pistol Braces shouldn’t have happened either and the Obama fuckery around taking 2A rights from Veterans shouldn’t have happened. In every single case it’s a President using Executive Orders to try and disenfranchise people to further a political agenda while Congress stands around navel gazing.
People need to internalize the fact that that the Government has no place in your Bedroom, Boardroom, Doctors Office, or Gun Cabinet and stop voting for the people who believe otherwise.
Gunshows and private sales are the way to go.
Gunshows can be places where two private parties can meet to transfer a firearm, but gunshows themselves aren’t a magic loophole. If you are a dealer, or sell more than a few firearms a year, you have to still file your paperwork and do the background check.
