I wouldn’t say especially security guards. On the spectrum of useless on one end and malicious on the other, security guards trend toward useless while cops trend toward malicious. The latter carries a much higher potential for harm.
Security guards are also much more incentivized to deescalate since most of them are unarmed, and even the armed ones can’t expect the backing of the courts to near the extent that cops like to abuse.
Security from 18-30. I mostly sat at a desk, in a shack, eating ramen noodles and playing on my phone. My main job was to be there on site for the insurance discount the company got. The few times I did actual work was mainly when someone got drunk and I had to call them a taxi, or if someone was injured, as most security guards are also CPR/AED, first aid trained. That’s it.
That was my dream job for a long time. I bet modern security jobs monitor you enough to ruin the magic of not doing shit.
Honestly, not really, depending on the post. You’re looking for single guard posts, night shift, gate access, unarmed. Those keywords on a post generally mean you’ll be sitting on your ass doing nothing all night, and maybe once every other hour you walk the perimeter and then write down that nothing happened.
Security guards are very much not cops, though.
(Eh, and they come in a spectrum of badness, too. Mostly depending on how much power and authority they’re given. Which, honestly, isn’t much for most of them.)
