An ABC NEWS Verify investigation reveals Facebook is directly funding some controversial Australian content creators including a white nationalist and an anti-vaxxer influencer.
I logged into FB for the first time in a long while because a friend uploaded a photo that I wanted to see.
I’ve got over 700 friends on there, and yet after scrolling for over 30 items - ads, video shorts, groups I’m not a member of, and pages I don’t follow - I didn’t see a single post from someone I knew, including the photo I knew for a fact had been posted 10 minutes earlier.
Network effect. I think most people are on Facebook because most people are on Facebook. My local groups have discussions there, local businesses share updates there.
Aside from these, it’s probably mostly people addicted to emotionally blackmailing AI slop - “if you don’t upvote this 12-fingered child prodigy who carved a lifelike wooden dog, he will think that nobody loves him 🥺😭🙏”
I straight up deleted my account so that I couldn’t be bothered to ever go back. But that’s why I left. Never saw any of my friends stuff anymore so there wasn’t any use anymore. And the depth of the surveillance was just coming to light which made it that much easier.

I’m baffled why anyone is still on Facebook.

Yeah, welcome to Denmark. Use Facebook and Messenger or count yourself as disconnected and ootl.
Want to use something a little more private/secure? Some people might use Whatsapp, which most definitely is not another Meta app! /s
Though, a few German tourists and I managed to bully some poor fellow Dane into installing Signal, so maybe not all is lost…
PS. Why is the “English” language not allowed in [email protected]? What language does the comm prefer?
Yup it’s total madness. I returned a few years ago and I was getting friend update notifications that were sometimes weeks old.
