They’re talking about CAIR, the Coucil on American-Islamic relations. It’s a civil rights organisation that tries to fight the unbelievable amount of islam hate in the US.

It’s a lobby organization in favor of the state of Israel. They spend significant amounts of money on elections, to favor the side that best represents Israels interest.

Edit: thanks for asking the question. So Wikipedia said they were founded after the backlash against Israel for their Qibya massacre. Which is when Israel decided to massacre a small village to make a statement (“kill any Jew and we will kill 20 of yours”, I guess). And the world was actually outraged. Also the guy who led the operation would later become the prime minister of Israel. And the government of Israel communicated the obvious lie that they had nothing to with this heinous crime…

They say “alleged” because it’s of course bullshit. What’s not bullshit is that Hayley Stevens, his opponent in the primary, is funded by Zionist money.

My understanding, after talking to @[email protected] last time is that this space is more about taking pot shots to agitate liberals rather than following principles regarding sources or language.

I also think a lot of imperialist people make a fuss about sources so the general reply is that we should just ignore.

I don’t make a fuss about random anonymous twitter accounts, but Mehdi Hasan is an actual war profiteer with blood on his hands. He is brown Piers Morgan. Would we post Piers Morgan? Idk.

        I am tired.

I would 100% post Piers Morgan.

90% of Piers the last 3 years is Piers putting on a clown hat and giving Palestine activists an open goal to score. Then he posts a short of it and everyone in the comments dunks on him. I’m quite certain Piers is doing it on purpose. Over the past 3 years Piers Morgan has been a much better ally to the Palestinian cause than Mehdi Hasnake.

That said Mehdi is on the Chomsky tier of calling out propaganda. As long as you don’t subscribe to his ideology of voting Democrat for the 9000th time as the solution to all your problems he has a lot of valid takes.

I can find issues with every online content creator. I’ve even got this person in my inbox who has large issues with people who aren’t even Democrat plants like Mehdi Hasnake https://lemmy.ml/post/51050025/27110323

This is a lazy and disingenuous response.

            I expected better.

he has a lot of valid takes

Reducing the blood of the martyrs to “takes” is a systematic issue I also find bizarre and uncomfortable.

I must be insane that the struggle of Palestine has been reduced to a talking point.

What’s been reduced to a talking point here? Do you only post takes of people you 100% ideologically align with and who would those be?

Recently we even had Ali Abumanah, Rania Khalek and others celebrating the wins of milquetoast Liberal Zionists I wouldn’t call allies to the Palestinians cause but I’m not going to stop posting their content either.

Mehdi is an opportunist Liberal who isn’t pushing the overton window for sure but he does occasionally say some valid stuff. Takes like these calling out Jewish Exceptionalism in media reporting are still quite rare these days

Ali Abumanah and Rania Khalek aren’t random Twitter users.

My view is that posting a Mehdi Hasnake quote is no different than posting a BBC article if that makes any sense. Coincidentally Mehdi used to work for the BBC as well.

Kind of false kind of true, 100% overblown smear campaign. The donations came from people who are members of CAIR (center for American and Islamic relations). A group pegged as a terrorist organization in Florida, Texas, and the United Arab Emirates (which to me is a green flag in CAIR’s favor, lol)

They’ve vocally opposed Israel’s invasion and supported Hamas in defending Palestinians but have historically denounced Hamas terrorist actions.

So, yeah, they’re Hamas linked, but in a “they’re the people fighting Israeli occupation” kind of way.

Edit to add: as far as I can tell the donations were personal donations by people who happen to be members of CAIR, not from CAIR itself even. Making it even more overblown smear when compared to, say, 60 million straight from AIPAC that others had received

Hamas-linked suggests ties to Hamas, not mere support. I don’t think there’s anything to this. Moreover, who cares when Haley Stevens, Abdul’s opponent in the primary, is funded by an extraordinary amount of Zionist money? Surely the Zionist occupation that’s currently committing genocide is worse than a group violently resisting it.

It’s not “kinda true”. It’s just outright false. If I support Hamas in the struggle against genocide that doesn’t mean I have links with Hamas. That’s not how this works.

Alright, I stand corrected then. Not that I particularly care about electoralism anyway, but it’s always interesting to see how nakedly corrupt US elections are.
