This is going to get bad - Hollywood level bad. Two days ago, the death count was at 1800 and confirmed cases had just breached 3k. There are now over 2k dead and 4300 confirmed infections. That’s 650 new cases and 100 deaths a day.
“We haven’t reached the peak yet,” said Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba in an interview shared by the ministry on X. “Within the next three months, we expect to have already brought the spread under control and to start seeing it decline,” he added.
So, in this overly optimistic scenario, at the current rate of infection, combined with the fatality rate, we’ll see 9000 more deaths and 58,500 new cases over the next three months before the government expects to have it “under control.”
This is a direct result of the dismantling of USAID and the CDC by the DOGE and GOP. The safeguards that protected us from the previous outbreak during Obama’s term are gone, and things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.
