  • Urgh, where to start!

To take care of my husband, as a one way street. People are shocked that he is the one grocery shopping, planning meals and most often executing them. He honestly cooks better than me except for a couple of my specialties and he definitely cares more than me.

That I shouldn’t care a lot about my career now that I have kids and husband. According to some family members I should have dropped it when I got married. First, I like my job. Second, I will not be dependent on my husband - because stuff goes wrong sooo easily! Maybe we divorce, maybe he loses his job. And we would both hate the pressure, and we both like the extra money.

That I should have stayed home longer with my first kid. I actually went to work while my husband stayed home. No regrets, from either of us - and by the way it was pivotal for my career.

  • Small example: in my job, there is a well known first application of some stuff. That was a groundbreaking program written in the 70s. Most copies got lost/broken, one is known to remain, but anyways no one had a compatible OS, so it is effectively unusable. (Don’t ask more details, I don’t know them)

Remember when, during the pandemic, giving free school lunches to everyone in the US actually costed less than the usual system?

The US system is build around punishing the poor. In EU there is less punishment but it could still be better. I’d love a reasonable universal basic income proposal. I’m just too jaded to think it will ever happen, but I’d love it and 100% support it. Even if I don’t need it and my taxes would likely get higher.

Slightly unrelated: I love paying taxes and seeing how that improves the society as a whole. My taxes go to schools, hospitals, roads, social programs, supporting a wide variety of association… I am glad to pay for all of it.
