So many people don’t understand soft power, or how much of it the US used to have. Now all they have is hard power, eg. sanctions and military action. And who would bother with either of those for a few tens of millions in fines? So now all the things America could do while saying cough USAID cough just aren’t going to happen without much more pressure, which oftentimes will simply not be worth it.

That also would have been good.

I would have gone with “Boromir would have been sure.”

Is this my first AI guillotine?

Yeah, that happens all the time, and far too often in my opinion. The first example I heard of was having sex with people of an age that would be illegal in your country while in another country, typically South East Asia. Everyone is okay with that that law being enforced, and I absolutely get why, but they weren’t so happy when this was applied in other areas.
There are certainly degrees to what is happening here. People who have left your country, gained citizenship elsewhere, and haven’t broken laws where they are being attacked to answer to laws halfway around the world because they used to live there or have family there is on the extreme end.

I can’t say that really surprises me. Things on a slope really want to be at the bottom of the slope, and it generally takes a lot to convince them otherwise. Also, whether you dig a hole to put the thing partially in or build a platform to put the thing on, it will be more than just putting a slab on more-or-less level ground.

I wouldn’t say this is the greatest flaw of democracy, but it is a significant one.
So imagine how shitty the bad stuff is…

I first saw this used by Hugh Hefner in some reality TV show with some of his bimbos in Venice. One of them said how cool it was to be where Al Capone was born and he responded with, “You’re so pretty.” Of course, she absolutely took the compliment at face value.

I specifically said what I was comfortable with doing to respond to this problem, depending on the size of the local population and therefore the likelihood of this actually occurring. Neither response was ‘nothing’.

The points raised are important because they determine how prevalent the problem is, and how sensationalized the article is.
There are 6 BILLION internet users. So 1 in 100,000 internet users have viewed these rape videos. Oh wait, less than that, that’s for the whole site. Oh wait, less than that, that’s hits, not unique visitors. Oh wait, only half of that 6 billion are men, more or less. Oh wait, women view porn, too. Etc.
This takes it from something that statistically is a concern for my small city to something that statistically has a single dangerous individual in my city, at most.
We perhaps shouldn’t make special units to deal with this where I live, but should maybe have awareness courses for law enforcement and healthcare professionals to help identify potential victims. Larger cities may want to take a different approach.

Also, carbonated beverages leave the container of their own volition, which can cause them to spill on books. If you’re bringing hard liquor to the library, you’re dedicated enough to make sure it gets drunk.

Easily proven or refuted. Shouldn’t be much of a case either way.

You mean like warrants and judicial oversight?

You’re right. The point is your rights are restricted when you engage in dangerous activities around the public.

For minutes? Were you driving through a high-school track meet, or just slaloming around young Superman?

“Oh, I see you were steering and braking erratically for minutes before this accident occurred. Perhaps you were drunk or under the influence?”
You’re maneuvering a massive machine with a lot of terrible things that can happen. Being able to determine that you shouldn’t be allowed to due to records of your actions shouldn’t necessarily be allowed to be avoided just because it would make your life easier, and certainly not just because we couldn’t before. Now, should that information be accessible without reasonable cause and a court order, or be allowed to be included as a requirement by insurance agencies for claims without the aforementioned reasonable cause and a court order, is certainly a consideration.

And owners should be able to access and curate (but not necessarily delete) the data the car does collect.
Now you’ve determined that your partner is a poor communicator, because “because” is never a useful answer. Now your question is whether to try to work with your partner to improve communication, or give up on an adult whose communication skills haven’t advanced beyond those of a child in first grade.
