For me that experience was slightly tainted by being really picky about customizations but then I found out quickly that literally any customization is possible. As a friend put it: most OSes are like buying a house. Using Linux is like being your own architect. You can use someone else’s blueprints and be fine. But anything you wanna change about that blueprint is probably doable. In any case, you’re in charge of your house, not some asshole CEO.

I hope your order is shipped soon! I really like this device. The experience has been pretty smooth so far, the performance is better than anticipated also. It functions well and it looks beautiful. The thing is tiny. I’m just running the stock SteamOS. I did not know windows was even an option on these actually.

I have never gotten anywhere with coworkers arguing this. They write the dumbest comments and resist feedback in PRs. Now with LLMs we’re adding a bunch of unit tests that are about half comments. I cannot begin to express how useless these comments are. No one is going to read 15 paragraphs to understand a slop unit test. If that shit breaks it’s not going to be obvious why. Between the verbosity and writing style, these comments are some of the least grokable shit I’ve seen in my career. My coworkers have basically let me know that my feedback is noted but they disagree.

I am curious if you bought it. I ended up buying one myself and it’s supposed to arrive tomorrow. I went looking in this community for any posts about people getting them and yours was the closest I found. Surprisingly little chatter about these things on Lemmy. I’m kind of excited about getting mine.

Really? I was looking at building a PC instead of getting the Machine but every build I came up with was steep. I admittedly didn’t thoroughly research everything but I did feel like I was picking lower tier parts and still was looking at well over $1000.

Oftentimes I think people getting upset about Google abandoning a project is overreacting, but it is a bit fucked up that they had a decent thing and it was used heavily in schools… But they went nah, like most everything else, let’s cancel this so we can put AI even more at the forefront.

There are also technical issues. I tried to use Matrix Element with my partner a couple years ago and it stopped working multiple times and we gave up on it. Even when it “worked” half the time notifications didn’t.
