Actually really digging Oishinbo already – it’s basically Ratatouille every episode but it’s still entertaining to watch. Not sure where Orange Road is going yet but I was really put off by the MC treating women like a baby factory.
So glad you mention that scene in particular. I tend to get more emotional at the final scene (“I guess I’m nobody…”) but both of those actually get a reaction out of me whereas the turning point of season 1 that’s supposed to, doesn’t.
Ooh, I forgot To Your Eternity got an anime. I got the first 7 volumes on some Humble Bundle ages ago and remember getting all emotional reading them. Any idea how much of the manga got adapted? Because it really takes a while for the manga to catch its stride.
Yeeeaaahh… I thought S2 was trying way too hard to actually get a reaction. Actually I still didn’t care for parts of S1. The arc that still sticks with me is starfish girl, that one made me a gibbering wreck.
Not that I’m saying any of that soured the experience, but with how obvious it was being, it couldn’t actually move me.

I wasn’t a hormonal teenager 15 years ago but I was still bottling up my emotions like I’d been taught as a child back then. I’ve become much more prone to crying over stories nowadays and usually telling people when I do, because while I do cry often it’s not everyday a story comes along that can do it so I take it as a good thing when it can.
I cry at the drop of a hat these days.

EDIT: I was trying to ignore movies but how could I forget to mention Koe No Katachi (AKA A Slient Voice)? I watch that one every year or two when I need a good cry to kinda reset.
Maybe hot take, but the only bit that actually got me in the heart was starfish girl in the first season (sadly, I cannot recall any of the characters names anymore). The second season felt too drawn out and trying too hard.
That said I have the ending theme burned into my brain. 🎶 Dango, dango, dango, dango, dango daikazoku 🎶
Gurren Lagann is one of my favorites, and the ending always tears me to shreds. Also the space portions during the big battles against the Anti-spirals (should be fairly obvious why). Strangely, the mid-season-1 drop (just before Nia was introduced) never got to me.
I’ve yet to see Grave of the Fireflies (when I was younger I was scared of what I’d heard, nowadays I’m just overworked and probably depressed) but I will cry every fucking time I watch Kiki’s Delivery Service. Moreso at the people being nice than anything else. I’ve become such a softie as I’ve aged.
Ditto for Trigun, I assume I know the episode you’re talking about offhand. Look up Trigun Hallelujah AMV sometime if you want a nice feels trip.
I once had a friend say much the same about Angel Beats and maybe that, like, ruined what should have been emotional turns for me but I did not end up feeling anything during Angel Beats. It felt like it was trying way too hard to actually affect me.
Very surprised to see a full youtube playlist of an anime in this day and age. Does that mean that so far you’ve only watched 1 episode of that Orange Road anime?
Question: How many episodes have I missed already? Whatever brand of neurodivergence I have would be itching at me if I jumped in somewhere in the middle.

Interesting that you had those ready to go, tho I’ve done a bit of a deep dive of the topic myself to try and understand it (IIRC I was spurred by an unfortunate series of back-to-back viewings of Elfen Lied, Attack on Titan, and Sword Art Online, which turned me off of anime for a year) so I kinda get it. I think maybe saying “siblings get purposefully disgusted” sounds more intentional than you meant, tho.
Interestingly enough, incest in general is not quite so damaging across the animal kingdom (or plants, but plants are a whole other discussion) as many people think. A healthy population should have enough genetic diversity and lack of those garbage genes which cause defects that an incest pairing won’t affect most offspring. Humans are just much more closely related to each other than would be usual for a population our size – we’ve gone through at least one (possibly more than one) population bottleneck that left us less genetically diverse than we should be – so it’s a lot easier for genetic diseases to be passed on through incest.
In some cases, incest has allowed animals to colonize environments they’d otherwise not be able to. Komodo dragons might be one such example, as they use ZW chromosomes instead of XY – females are ZW while males are ZZ – and are capable of parthenogenesis. That means a singular female can, separated from any male, lay a clutch of “clone” eggs which will all hatch male and thus have a mate to continue the species. This may have been how Komodo dragons colonized the islands they call home.

I love it so much. I always love seeing art that re-interprets famous mecha.
I have a huge soft spot for Slime Time because while I recognize it’s trashy and extremely heavy on the power fantasy, there’s a sense of altruism – that is, the main goal of the MC is just wanting to make life better for the monsters whether they’re his subjects or not – that makes it more enjoyable than other isekai I’ve been introduced to. The early arcs around Shizu and then the Orc Disaster Geld were so touching that they made me cry.
Well, there is that but I was thinking more like the world of The Weakest Tamer where everyone has a magical “skill” dictated by how many “stars” they have and the MC has a voice in their head that tells them things they may not know (which goes unheard by the audience but seems to chime in like a player through a screen (or maybe just a ghost)), but otherwise has no obvious tells of being a video game world. Unless you count the MC doing inventory management on the regular.
I keep thinking there’s a secret third option because of the ambiguous way the question was phrased – something like how seemingly half of all isekai have gaming-inspired abilities despite not being set in nor based on a video game world.
My guess is Tatsuhara and Saori but there’s a few different ways each could be pronounced, it seems.
