They would make this illegal so fast.

They learned from the private jet trackers.

Being observed is for the underclasses.

Can confirm that this works. I have a job that takes me into the deep dark reaches of Brentwood, CA, and that’s probably turned me more away from capitalism than anything I’ve ever read on Lemmy, lol.

Growing up my parents had a close friend who was fairly wealthy who would bring a couple friends with family to semi-annual vacations, and one time when I was around 15 he brought us to his condo in Naples, Florida. He took us out on his boat into the beautiful mangroves with manatees and fish and birds and all kinds of wildlife, and then we hit the mazes of colossal personal mansions that turned out much larger than the mangroves. And as we boated through that maze and they fawned over how pretty the mansions were, they mentioned that decades ago when they were like 20, the land that all of those mansions and roads stood on was more endless mangroves. All the wildlife I’d just been shown was the last gasp of an incredibly vibrant and rare ecosystem actively being raped by the ultra wealthy, and these dense motherfuckers on the boat didn’t see an ounce of the horror of it. That moment probably radicalized me more than almost anything.

Turns out much of Florida is just like that now. The whole state is a fucking tragedy.

I’m doing ok career-wise, but occasionally I’ll be in some neighbourhood that’s out of my price range. My thoughts are never aspirational or envious, but I get a kind of nausea in my soul like, is that all there is?

All that work and exploitation and whatever else it was that happened for you to be able to afford this and it’s what, a circular driveway so that you don’t have to use your reverse gear? Nicer brickwork for you to look at and say mmm don’t we have nice brickwork? A private tennis court so that you don’t accidentally meet people using a public tennis court? A security guard because now you’ve got nice stuff you’re living in fear that someone will take it?

It seems like so much for so little; to want to chase it seems like a sickness on par with heroin addiction.

So Cal, it’s near The Getti if you’re ever passing via 405. Quite a few gated mansions, although it’s not quite as high as Bel Air which is adjacent.

Would like to do this in Asheville, but the wealthy neighborhoods are totally gated off. Hm wonder why.

I think there was a party/protest a few years ago in Berlin that involved mobile soundsystems and rich asshole neighbourhoods, not sure if they’re still on.

Do you know how sweden is today compared to luke 30 years ago? There was no über class really back in the day (with the exception of some small places in and around Stockholm really).

It is quite a broad question. But class divides are increasing. I do not have the numbers, but I think the biggest is a more wealthy upper middle class, who loans more, get more tax deductions, while the lower blue collar working class has worse access to schools, healthcare, higher rents, and so on.

On a higher political plane… Everything is privatized now, and some right wing lobby group or paper declared that Sweden is no longer a socialdemocratic project, as they managed to sell everything (including to criminal gangs). 30 years, -ish, ago the nazi party were in the streets celebrating a massmurderer at their demonstrations, that party is now a part of the government. So like, yeah, that is where it is going.
