A French court ordered the town hall of Vaulx-en-Velin, a suburb of Lyon, to remove a Palestinian flag flying from its facade, ruling that it breached the principle of neutrality in public services, Anadolu reports.
The Lyon administrative court, ruling in an emergency procedure brought by the Rhone prefect, ordered the flag to be removed without delay and imposed a fine of 100 euros ($117) for each day of non-compliance.
The Palestinian flag was raised on July 4 during a municipal event and displayed alongside the French and European flags.
Fuck that court
ruling that it breached the principle of neutrality in public service
displayed alongside the French and European flags.
So these do not breach the principle of neutrality?
Not taking sides, just explaining.
In France it’s only legal to display the French and UE flags (mandatory) alongside official local flags (region or municipality for instance, optional).
It’s reasonable to display your own flags I’d suppose.
Displaying another country flag must be approved by the state services, in case of an official visit for instance.
The Ukraine flag was and still is very much tolerated. It’s the only common exception. Israeli flags have been removed in the past. The courts are usually applying the rules fairly evenly.
Yeah I get that, but going by the court’s wording, they’re essentially saying that supporting current regime is somehow “neutral”
Wait until you learn that all town offices in France must display the portrait of the current president!
It’s a tradition but it’s not mandatory. They tried to make it mandatory a few years ago without success.
