Volkswagen must deepen cost cuts to remain competitive against Chinese brands increasingly taking aim at the German auto group’s home market, CEO Oliver Blume said
Patrick Boyle had a pretty good youtube video about this “mercantalist-on-mercantalist violence.”
My impression is that Germany, like so many other places, is going to need to come up with a substantially new and different way to manage its economic system. Manufacturing cars is no longer the path to greatness that everyone 50 years ago thought it was forever going to be.
It already has a new ‘model’ but the effects don’t yet show up in headline statistics. The new German model has three parts:
- increasing domestic investment with fundamental capital market reforms (like the new pension system and startup regulations)
- implementing the strategy and detailed plan to grow 6 industries (quantum, silicon products, fusion, biotech, battery, AI)
- increasing domestic demand (higher wages, longer hours worked, modernization of public sector)
Can you stop telling the same lie again and again?
Why bother competing when you can instead deprive people of their means of survival.
No, they need to make EVs that aren’t shit.
But it is easier to sell out to China. Short term profit, no need for long term planning and risjs that those include. Those manufacturers no longer care for their brand or long term sustainability. In such case closing factories and selling what they have makes most sense. In the end they still can cry ‘China bad’ anyway.
Actually they just need to EVs.
But they won’t as lobbying for corrupt politicians and media to tell the lie how ICEs are totally viable forever because thermodynamics don’t exist and synthetic fuels will solve all issues is cheaper in the the short run than actual work. And in the long run… no one cares because those people then will already have moved on to the next companies to destroy for short-term gains.
which german ev models do you rate as shit? i cant think of any…
