You guys don’t get an alumni magazine that follows you somehow and asks for money every couple months?
For real. I feel like the moment I walked across the stage they started begging for donations from me.
My uni used to phone me to ask for donations. I never blocked the number. I laughed and would love asking the caller if he’s having much success and how many people have given them any money.
Long as I don’t have to watch you eat tomatoes.
As someone currently marking final papers, I think it’s closer to “go die in whatever way your AI deems best”.
It scares me how widely people have adopted this slop.
most people are utilitarian
Low-information utilitarianism, which is in many cases a kind of anti-utilitarianism. Maximizing for the least optimal outcome, if you will.
did you ask the people whether it works for them?
yeah, you’re right, chatgpt and other chatbots will lead to a cognitive decline in some way
then again, i’m not sure that’s a bad thing; people’s wellbeing is influenced by a lot of things, such as good quality food, enough time off work, social connections. i don’t see these things being influenced by AI. in fact, if anything, i hope people will spend less time in front of screens because instagram will be overrun with bots. and that’s a net positive to people’s quality of life.
In German we call this the “Deppenapostroph”. Just sayin’.
Hearing about students experiences feels like validation for my choice of not going which was driven by the massive costs and not really being sure what to do or why I should bother going.
It’s great if you know what you want out of it. If you’re thinking of going for lack of better ideas… it’s one of those experiences that is interesting and enlightening, but not worth the price.
t. went to college for lack of better ideas
I didn’t really have any idea or direction at that age and just knew I didn’t think far more debt than I could even comprehend was a good idea so avoided that. Because I wasn’t going to uni I was just ignored by school.
honestly, the economy is fucked for everyone. i would be very surprised if any other field pays high wages long term.
So what? Most people will never see high wages, just focus on earning enough. I don’t care if you can’t afford a mansion.
Given that we say “at university” not “at a university” I think we can assume Uni is a non-count noun and avoid pluralising it altogether.
Although i’ve noticed the way non-count nouns are treated seems less stable, so maybe that whole thing is on the way out. Data is often treated as a plural not a non-count noun - i heard “this data is” 15+ years ago, whereas i hear “these data are” now.
I think it’s very reasonable to pluralize the abbrievation with an apostrophe though, especially since “unis” would naturally be read with a short ‘i’ rather than the ‘ee’ of “Uni”
